FTRC Home > FTRC Programs & Goals
1) One goal is to establish reliable and easily obtainable biomarkers for fluoride poisoning. This development, along with connecting with people who are so afflicted, will provide invaluable evidence for legal cases that will inevitably result. In fact, many cases are already waiting in the wings for more of this type of evidence to surface. Most importantly, people who have fluoride-related illnesses will finally be acknowledged, others will be identified, and, hopefully, all will ultimately be offered effective treatment.
2) Other aspects of fluoride toxicity research, such as measuring fluoride accumulation in bone and other tissues, will be helpful in determining long-term effects of water fluoridation. We envision our research department growing as needed; as more answers are found, undoubtedly more questions will emerge.
3) We have already instituted an e-mail list serve called the FTRC Members’ Exchange, through which professional Collaborative members can exchange their theoretical ideas related to fluoride poisoning, as well as share real-life case studies, questions, or other pertinent ideas. Members have already shared some extremely interesting and informative ideas. No other online vehicle exists for professionals to brainstorm ideas related to fluoride poisoning.
4) Currently, we are compiling referral lists of medical and other professionals, as well as laboratories around the country who will be able to help meet some of the needs of fluoride-poisoned individuals in their geographic areas. One important planned component of this program would be a much-needed Fluoride Poisoning Hotline.
5) To address the dearth of instruction and teaching tools on fluoride toxicology, Second Look has already completed the initial stages for the production of a unique PowerPoint presentation with a program that can be used to train medical personnel who can, in turn train others. We have created unique slides that Dr. Mullenix is now using in her presentations, and expect to complete the full program as we develop further resources to help with time and funding constraints.
6) Second Look/FTRC will help sponsor and/or commission relevant publications concerning fluoride toxicity. One such article, by Dr. Mullenix, has already been published by a leading peer-reviewed environmental health journal, and another paper, by both Dr. Mullenix and Dr. Limeback, is in development.
7) Fluoride Poisoning Bibliography: FTRC WebCenter offers a special bibliographic section devoted only to peer-reviewed medical and science journal articles and other publications on the subject of fluoride poisoning. We will post or link to full papers whenever we have permission to do so. This listing will be a companion to SLweb’s huge Bibliography.
8) The FTRC WebCenter will also sport a News & Events section, with current news and other non-scientific articles related to fluoride poisoning.
9) FTRC WebCenter offers another special feature with its Personal Stories section. These first-person accounts are by people who have been dealing with fluoride poisoning, either their own or in those close to them. Some of these stories may have been previously published, but all those we post will always be carefully selected for their veracity, educational usefulness, and compelling interest level.
10) Last, but not least, is our Index of Fluorinated Pharmaceuticals. This ongoing project will list fluorinated pharmaceuticals, by category and by commercial name, for user-friendly access. But, with a click for each one, any researcher will be able to read a detailed summary of the relevant pharmacological data, including its metabolic fate, which will give an indication of its relative toxicity. (This project is in its beginning stages and thus does not currently have all planned features or a full listing of drugs.)
We are currently raising funds in order to get this unique new program fully launched as soon as possible. In this current economic climate, Second Look/FTRC is dependent upon donations from individuals. Please consider donating generously to this non-profit organization! All donations are 100% tax-deductible*. Checks should be made payable to: Tides/Second Look (please see the Support SL page on this website for our mailing address). Secure online donations, including anonymous donations, can be made via the Support SL page on this website.
* Tax deductible for US citizens; Canadians can enjoy this same benefit if they donate $1,000 or over, because at that amount the processing can be done through Tides Canada (please contact us for details).
